Overview
Step into one of Lodi’s most peaceful hidden gems at the Japanese Garden at Micke Grove Regional Park. Set within the 132-acre park, this serene garden invites visitors to slow down and enjoy koi ponds, flowering cherry trees, stone lanterns, a graceful red arch bridge, and a traditional Tea Pavilion surrounded by beautifully designed landscape features. It is a quiet, photo-worthy stop for couples, families, garden lovers, and anyone looking for a calm outdoor experience in Lodi.
The garden’s story is as meaningful as its setting. Its beginnings trace back to 1959, when Maseo “Duke” Yoshimura helped lead the effort to create a Japanese garden that would honor cultural heritage and build connection between the Japanese American community and San Joaquin County. The garden was later designed with guidance from Nagao Sakurai, a distinguished landscape architect who had served at the Imperial Palace gardens in Tokyo.
Today, the Japanese Garden remains one of Micke Grove Regional Park’s most beloved attractions. Visitors can stroll through the peaceful grounds, admire the koi pond and waterfall, take in the seasonal beauty of cherry blossoms, and enjoy a reflective pause before exploring nearby park attractions like Micke Grove Zoo, the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking paths.
The Japanese Garden is also a popular Lodi wedding and ceremony location, offering a tranquil setting with three beautiful ceremony areas, an indoor Tea Pavilion, nearby restrooms, and parking close by. Whether you are planning a special event or simply looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature, the Japanese Garden at Micke Grove is a memorable stop in Lodi, California.
