Oil Painting Workshop with Marilyn Eger
Create your own masterpiece from a photo of your choice!
Join local artist Marilyn Eger for a hands-on, small-group Oil Painting Workshop at the Lodi Community Art Center. In this two-session class, Marilyn will guide you through every step of creating a finished oil painting based on your own photograph. With personalized instruction in composition, color theory, color mixing, and technique, this workshop is perfect for artists of all levels—from high school students to adults.
What to Expect:
- Tone your canvas with a warm color before the first class so it’s ready to paint.
- Bring two photos of your chosen subject—one in color and one in black & white—both sized to match your canvas.
- Transfer your image using carbon paper and work alongside Marilyn as she provides individual coaching and demonstrations.
- Learn to bring your photo to life with depth, balance, and color harmony.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day
Class Details:
- Audience: High school age – Adult
- Experience Level: All levels welcome
- Class Size: 6–9 students
Workshop Fees:
Members: $100 (both sessions)
Non-Members: $145 (both sessions)
Instructor Materials Fee: Add $25 (if using Marilyn’s materials) – bring your own toned canvas
Payment is due in advance. One full week’s notice is required for refunds.

- Oil Paints:
Alizarin Crimson*, Burnt Sienna*, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow, Naples Yellow*, Thalo Blue*, Titanium White*, Ultramarine Blue*, Viridian Green*, Yellow Ochre (*required colors)
Brushes & Miscellaneous: - Filbert Brushes #1, #2, #3, #6 (Utrecht Series 209 recommended)
- Utrecht 239-B Mixed Synthetic #4 (for softening edges)
- Canvas (size of your choice, pre-toned)
- Liquin Original
- Turpenoid + metal cup
- Rags or paper towels
- Large palette
- French easel or bring your own (the art center also provides easels)
