A Night Out in Lodi

While Lodi is a very family friendly place to visit, it can also be a place where adults can be adults, enjoying the great wine tasting available and of course having fun when the sun goes down and the kids go to bed.

Wine Tasting

With tasting rooms seemingly on every corner, you won’t be hard-pressed to find a good spot to find some of Lodi’s finest nectar.

Tasting in Downtown alone gives you plenty of options to taste, but note that some rooms will close a little earlier than you may think.  However, for a late-night glass of wine, tasting rooms like Scotto’s Wine & Cider, Twisted Barrel Winery, Weibel Family Vineyards & Winery and Wine Social will stay open into the evening hours.

Or, check out the Dancing Fox Winery, Brewery & Restaurant downtown who produce handcrafted wines and beers in a super chic and medieval style bar.  While tastings end earlier in the day, you can still order the Dancing Fox’s wines (or their beers) and get well fed from their kitchen. There truly is something on the menu for everyone!

A perfect place for wine, craft beer and cigar aficionados that is open into the evening is Stogies Cigar Lounge, which offers some local favorite wines and beers along with a large selection of cigars and pipe tobaccos for purchase and consumption both in and outdoors.

However, the tasting rooms downtown merely scratch the surface of the wines Lodi produces.  There are plenty of wineries outside of downtown, but not all of them are open at night.

We always recommend double-checking to ensure hours are correct (some do shift seasonally), wineries like Barsetti Vineyards, who stay open later on Friday and Saturday nights and Viaggio Estate & Winery, who typically stay open later on Fridays, are perfect places out of the heart of Lodi for you night owls.

Whatever you do, don’t stay in your hotel room all day and miss out on all the world-class wine available to you! Whether you take the Sip Shuttle and experience a bunch of wineries or you designate a sober driver to bounce from winery to winery, make sure you’re up and at ‘em to take advantage!

Breweries

The first craft brewery in Lodi is an easy and popular find for locals and tourists alike! Lodi Beer Company not only offers great craft beer selections (you can tell they make their own beer by the giant beer kettles in the middle of the restaurant) but great food too. Easy to find on School Street downtown, Lodi Beer offers a flavor for everyone!

Five Window Beer Company is another downtown craft brewer that packs some major flavor. Like your beers on the hoppy side? Their collection of India Pale Ales (IPA) will have your mouth watering!

Now we know not everyone’s pallet likes IPAs, but we know you’ll find something on the menu to enjoy as styles they produce are very flexible, including a cerveza style lager, stouts, Belgian whites, and even fruit beers!

At Idol Beer Works down the street, you’ll find even more craft beer options to wet your whistle.  While Grant the owner hails from Scotland, he’s been a man of the world for many years, which is reflective of his styles you can drink.

You’ll find some easy drinking German-style beers on the menu with Scottish and English style ales and seasonal and experimental brews.

If you’re just looking for a place that is all about variety, Brix and Hops is a great place to be. The menu seems endless (as do their wall of taps) and they offer #lodiwines to non-beer drinkers as well!

Cocktail Bars

When wine and beer won’t do the trick, it’s nice to go to a place to get a great cocktail and Lodi has just that.

Just up School Street in Downtown Lodi is 20 North, who offer over 300 different spirits and an array of signature cocktails in a sophisticated and inviting space! Like their Saint Basil, which is muddled basil with St. Germain Liqueur and topped with champagne for a boozy and bubbly surprise.

Next door to 20 North is Ollie’s Pub, and at first glance, you might think this is just an Irish pub that serves great Guinness and other classic import beers, and you wouldn’t be wrong, just not completely correct.

A host of specialty cocktails and shots for every pallet are available at the bar ranging from the very sweet drinks named after popular candies, to a little more classic Irish fare like the Baby Guinness and even their Gupcake. Drop a shot of cake flavored vodka into a half pint of Guinness and enjoy the Guinness cupcake on your taste buds!

Live Music

For adults, sometimes the weekends kick off on “Thirsty Thursday”, and if that’s you when you #visitlodi be sure to check out Oak Farm Vineyards who host Music in the Courtyard where you can purchase bottles of wine and snack plates out of Oak Farm’s selection of cheeses, salami, and other small bites. Or, Oak Farm allows you to bring your own picnic, to the event!

Sample some amazing food and wine and learn more about what pairs well together, all while listening to live music on Friday nights at Viaggio Estate & Winery during their Live Music with Food and Wine Pairings events!

Can’t make it on Friday night? No problem, Viaggio hosts an earlier in the afternoon version of this event on Saturdays and Sundays as well.

Also hosting live music in the evenings are both Hawk’s Landing Wine Cellars and Woodbridge Crossing on Friday and Saturday nights. Sip on some always delicious wines at Hawk’s Landing downtown while listening to tunes, or venture out of the downtown area to Woodbridge where you can get great food and drinks till late into the morning while listening and dancing to an array of bands.

If you’re looking for a cozier evening you might want to check out the Towne House Lounge, located at Wine & Roses. While the Towne House Restaurant is always a favorite place to get lunch and dinner, the Towne House Lounge offers live music every night of the. Here you can unwind with a glass of #lodiwine or a cocktail around the piano.

If billiards is more your style, head over to both The Stadium, a sports bar just north of downtown, or Garry’s Lounge in downtown.  Both have fun vibes, strong drinks and a handful of pool tables to play on until closing time comes in the early morning hours.

Why Lodi Is the Most Exciting US Wine Region You’ve Never Heard of

Some young and approaching cult-level status with their “cool-kid” followings—have noticed the potential of the region and have bought vineyards here or are sourcing fruit for their own labels. Together, they’re producing a fascinating range of Lodi wines, with bright, aromatic character profiles that are themselves somewhat shocking, especially if your reference point is the now-dated big, ripe fruit bomb.
